Welcome to SailboatingLessons.com, a place where you can find sailing lessons, safety tips, navigation and basic cruising, that you can use as a basis for your sailing education. This website is designed to give you basic sailing lessons, not to replace sailing courses.
One of the first sailing lessons will always provide tips on safety at sea. You should always carry with you the personal flotation device, a white hat and some sunscreen lotion. Other things that you can carry include a VHF radio that is waterproof and some pocket flares.
Another one of the basic sailing lessons, and something you should know before enrolling for classes is the names used for different parts of the boat. Port is used when referring to the left side, the right side is called starboard, the rear is called stern and the front is called bow.
A few other tips for your sailing lessons:
- if someone falls overboard, throw him a flotation device immediately and one or two people should keep him under observation at all times until the boat turns.
- the sloop, with two sails and one mast, is the most common sail boat encountered
- something that all sailing lessons should have, is the road rules. Who gives priority to who. Sailboats will generally have priority when meeting with powerboats, but will change direction themselves when meeting with fishing boats.
- tying basic knots is another must of sailing lessons
- one should always check the weather conditions before heading out with this sailboat.
Before heading out on your next sailing trip be sure to keep these in mind because believe it or not given the right situation some of these sailing tips might even save your life one day.
