Sailing dinghy is the activity in which people sail small boats, using just the underwater foils and the sails, and it also involves the movement of the crew, to compensate for strong winds. Due to the small size of the boats, a sailing dinghy can be a very rewarding experience, which is becoming more popular lately.
Used in the beginning as fishing boats and for transport between large ships and the shore, the sailing dinghy was eventually ported into the recreation area and was started using in sports and other activities.
One of the biggest contributions to the sailing dinghy, was done by the British boat designer Uffa Fox in the early 1900's, and his designs ( Scorpion, Firefly, National 12, Albacore, Flying Fifteen) are still used to this day.
His biggest contribution to the sailing dinghy was the hull that allows the boat to plane, only skimming the surface of the water and allowing it to reach higher speeds.
Another important technique introduced 30 years after Uffa Fox, was the trapezing, which involves the crew hanging outside the boat to allow the sails to provide maximum power. One of the most important advances made in the last few decades to the sailing dinghy is that its becoming a less expensive sport and its available to more people then before. As a result it has a rapid increase in popularity.
